Course Description:

This laboratory boot camp was an accelerated program designed to equip participants with essential laboratory techniques for ovarian cancer research at Western University. The program provided hands-on training in DNA isolation, protein quantification, and western blotting, enabling us to analyze proteins and understand their role in ovarian cancer. Through intensive practical sessions and expert guidance, we developed the skills necessary to conduct high-impact research and contribute meaningfully to the field of oncology. The experience was invaluable for mastering key techniques and applying them to real-world research challenges.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Develop proficiency in isolating DNA from biological samples using advanced laboratory techniques, ensuring accuracy and purity for subsequent analysis.

  2. Acquire skills in quantifying protein concentrations using standard assays, with the ability to accurately measure and interpret protein levels in research samples.

  3. Utilize the laboratory methods learned to investigate protein expression and biomarkers relevant to ovarian cancer, contributing to a deeper understanding of the disease.
